A second round of talks between The Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta, the trio that will be presiding over the EU Council between January 2016 and June 2017 was held in The Netherlands yesterday and today.
Malta was represented by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Presidency of the EU Council in 2017 Ian Borg.
The meeting discussed the latest political developments at European level and how these might impact the preparations for the EU presidency.
Throughout the discussions, the important link between the Council and the EU Parliament – the two main legislative bodies – was emphasised.
In this regard, Dr Borg will, next week, be leading a delegation for talks with several MEPs. The talks will represent the first official meetings about the Presidency together with the European Parliament.
Consultations were also carried out between the three countries on ways of cooperating on a political level throughout the 18-month presidency.
