One wonders what has become of the investigation being conducted by the Food and Veterinary Regulation Division into the disappearance of the majority of the San Anton felines.

Readers and carers alike were assured that although the Environmental Landscapes Consortium had acted without the requisite authority (PQ 8835), the cats had been safely transferred to Wied Incita.

However, three separate visits by myself to Wied Incita, in the company of the well-meaning official conducting the investigation, revealed no more than four ex-San Anton residents out of a total of 16 missing felines.

Could it be that the official heading the investigation is still trying to make good Lino Vella's commendable determination to "account for every cat and be 100 per cent certain that we have traced every single one before concluding our investigation" (The Times, November 23, 2004)? If so, how much longer will readers have to wait before being enlightened by the "clear conclusions" they were promised?
