So let me see if I got this right. The mayor of St Julians says cyclists (assuming even cyclists from St Julians) can go elsewhere but not cycle on the promenade – despite this being a virtual bypass; well it avoids the centre of St Julians/Sliema. But one has to ask: Where?

The obvious is the road but next I suppose we will have motorists and bus drivers complaining they are no longer having to squeeze past faster cyclists who feel secure on the road but, rather, will have to wait, crawling behind unsteady novices. Cyclists who would have felt safer on the promenade and, due to their leisurely progress, would have really hindered or inconvenienced... well nobody in particular! As such they are forced to ride well out into traffic to avoid being “doored” by those few car drivers who insist on not looking behind them because there isn’t usually anything in that part of the lane.

Oh smart move Mr Mayor. You really are going out of your way to please everyone.
