This year’s theme for the 10th edition of the live crib organised by the Xagħra Guiding Light Group is “The light shines in the darkness” (John 1,5).

This year, The Guiding Light Group is celebrating its 11th year in the making. The main aim of this group has always been to help local youths and teenagers come closer to understanding the word of Jesus Christ.

In fact, every week during the scholastic season, local youths and teenagers come together at Nazzarenu in Xagħra, for a weekly religious meeting. The group has organised voluntary activities as well as activities away from the Maltese islands.

Nowadays, Christmas has taken on a different meaning to that for which it was originally intended. In this day and age, Christmas has been commercialised and adapted to suit the comforts and ideologies of the mordern world. There are many social misgivings that the Christian believer today has to come in contact with and which might side-track Christians from experiencing the wonder and joy of Christmas.

The beauty of Christmas is that its story happens everyday among us. We only need to open our eyes and then we can see it happening in front of us, in our children and in those who are in need the most.

The Guiding Light Group aspires to send out the message of the joy of Christmas with the representation of the Live Crib.

In this 10th edition of the Live Crib there is a change in the location of the Live Crib. In addition, there are also new sections which represent different themes from the previous years depicting actual activities that took place during Jesus's life.

The Live Crib as usual will be divided into sections, where visitors will be able to see different characters in their natural environments, which is typical of the Jewish society in the time of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Visitors will be able to see different characters dressed in typical Jewish clothing along with a variety of animals, which together give life to the crib and send out a Christian message to the public who come to visit. As usual the group has kept as the main focus the Holy Eucharist and thus visitors will be able to see the trade of wine making and that of bread.

Above all, the main aim of the group is to evangalise the true Christian message and to spread the joy that Christmas brings with it and to be able to incorporate this joy into today's life and time. The Live Crib will be located in front of the Jesus of Nazareth Church in Xagħra, Gozo and will be open to the public for free on the following days: December 24: 6.30 till 8 p.m.; December 25, 26, 30/January 1, 2: 3 till 9 p.m.
