Formula One may be on its summer break, but the rumour mill is working overtime.

Latest reports, in the London Times, say Ron Dennis will actually allow Fernando Alonso to leave McLaren at the end of this season. The Spaniard has long indicated he is unhappy in the team, but he has a three year contract and as recently as last Sunday Dennis said he hoped it would be honoured.

Should he leave McLaren as a free agent, Alonso is expected to rejoin Renault. Alonso's father and manager reportedly had a meeting with Renault principal Flavio Briatore after the race.

Should he move, Alonso is expected to replace Giancarlo Fisichella, his former team-mate. Rookie Heikki Kovalainnen, now just one point behind Fisi in the championship, is expected to be retained.

Nelson Piquet Jr who had been hoping for a Renault race seat is now looking as possibilities at Williams (as a replacement for Wurz). But so is Fisichella.

According to some Italian newspaper reports, Ferrari are keen to attract Lewis Hamilton to the Scuderia from McLaren and are prepared to offer big money to achieve their aim. The British rookie, currently championship leader, has been practically raised by McLaren but had a rude radio exchange with his mentor Ron Dennis during Saturday qualifying, badly denting his image within the team. The driver has since said he has apologised. But has the damage been done?

Should any move take place, however unlikely, who will he replace? A Hamilton- Raikkonen swap perhaps, with the Finn returning to McLaren? Toro Rosso, meanwhile, are tomorrow expected to announce a race seat for Sebastian Bourdais, replacing Viantonio Liuzzi, who has had a falling out with team officials.
