The 10th Euromed Malta Championship will come to an exciting end today when the last decisive race is held in what has been described as a pleasant event.

While the championship's eventual winner will come from the Optimist Open Class, three other classes are being contested in this year's edition, namely Junior Optimist, Laser Standard and Laser 4.7.

Edward Fleri Soler IS ELADING the Optimist Open Class by a mere point from Russian sailor Nikita Ushkov. In the Laser 4.7 Class, Thomas Zammit Tabona is on top with Nicholas William, of Great Britain, in second place.

Maya Podesta is in command of the Laser Standard Class with Italians Lozzia Piero and Rosalba Giordana occupying the first two places in the Junior Optimist Class.

The event has been running smoothly. The sailing conditions have been very good, mostly west-southwest winds blowing between 15 and 20 knots, while on shore, a valid helping hand is being extended by the enthusiastic parents of both local and foreign sailors.

The 2009 Euromed Malta Championship officially concludes this evening with the prize-giving reception at the Seabank Hotel, Mellieħa.

The Malta Young Sailors Club, in partnership with the Kunsill Malti għall-Isport and under the auspices of the Malta Sailing Federation, are the organisers of the Euromed Malta Championship. Atlas Insurance and Air Malta are the main sponsors of this year's event.
