Osama Al Shzliaoy and Trayvon Martin did not know each other. They lived thousands of miles apart. They had different life styles, friends, likes and dislikes. However both of them committed a heinous crime which, it seems,  merited them death, a violent death.

Perversions of perversions: both of them were blacks.

Osama, 26 years old, was living in Gzira after escaping from a hell called Sudan. His friends knew him as ‘sunshine’. He worked at Preluna Hotel for some time. However, he wanted to improve his quality of live; and thus left employment to study to become a doctor.

Trayvon Martin , a 17-year-old African-American, lived in Sanford, Florida. He was still a student. Martin’s English teacher described him as “as an A and B student who majored in cheerfulness.”

Osama was critically injured after being attacked by two Romanian men outside a nightclub in Paceville. He suffered serious head injuries. The Romanians run away leaving him in a pool of blood. On a fateful Saturday morning the sun set on ‘sunshine’ and the life support machines were switched off. His friends were shocked. So should have been the whole nation.

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida. The shooter was George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old man. Zimmerman admits killing Martin, but claims he was acting in self-defence. Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, passed in 2005, allows people to use deadly force if they believe they’re in imminent danger.

Zimmerman phoned the police telling them that there was a guy acting suspiciously and that he was going to follow him. The police told him not to as they were going to take care of it themselves. Zimmerman ignored the police and  followed Martin just the same. Martin was on the phone with a friend telling her that he was being hounded by a man. Zimmerman was carrying a a Kel Tel 9 millimeter handgun. Martin was carrying a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea. On the advice of his friend, Martin started running in an attempt to escape. Alas he was cornered, shot and killed.

On the other hand Zimmerman told the police that he was attacked and killed Martin in self-defence. Sanford police said, “there is no evidence to dispute the shooter’s claim of self-defence.” However the Department of Justice, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney announced they were launching "a thorough and independent review" of the shooting -- will there be justice?

Back to Malta, the police are not dragging their feet in any way. They are still seeking the two men suspected of having been involved. They desperately need the co-operation of the public to arrest the two suspected Romanians.  Anyone having information on the case should call the police on  119 or 2122 4001.

It’s one duty to co-operate.
