One cannot but observe the progress made at reinstating this palace into a cultural attraction by converting it into a museum.
For years this palace was never given the attention it deserved. Some years back, it was used as a folklore museum, but in recent years this idea was abandoned. It was felt better to put the palace into its proper character and present it as a reminder of the Inquisitors` office on the island as Papal delegate.
With the help of the Cottonera Rehabilitation Committee, clearing of rubble and debris from the crypt was started. In the process, graffiti on its walls are being uncovered. The halls are being decorated with suitable paintings and period furniture.
It seems that the Museums Department has finally discarded the attitude that the Inquisitors` Palace was the dumping ground for unwanted artifacts.
Credit must go to the officers in charge at this palace for maintaining it and endeavouring to ensure all its rooms in a fit state to be open for exhibition.
However, it is a pity to note that recently the palace has frequently been kept closed for no apparent reason.
We hope that this museum, which is a main puller of visitors to Vittoriosa, is kept open like other Museum Department sites.
