The hefty Super 5 lottery was won yesterday, leaving other ticket holders with just a dream of what they could have done with the tidy €1 million. It can only be hoped the winners have more clear-cut ideas on what to do with the jackpot than the unlucky punters, but share their philanthropic aims. Maybe they would consider buying a whistling kettle, as one woman told Fiona Galea Debono she would have done for her conned relative had she won.

Monica Debattista, 55, Maltese-born, living in Australia
"I promised my aunt I'd buy her a whistling kettle from Australia and send it over. She recently bought one and it said on the box that it whistled, but it didn't and she was disappointed... I'd also take my family on a holiday and pay for my daughters' education. They are currently at university, which costs a lot. They work part-time to support themselves and I would love to pay for it myself."

The Tabone family from Naxxar and their friend, Daniel Cini, from Fgura
"I don't want to think about it, otherwise I won't win," says 19-year-old Tyron.

"If you decide today, tomorrow you're bound to change your mind. But if I really had to say, it would be a yacht, although I would not spend the whole million on that as I would need other commodities... I'm the only one who would stop working and that is because of my age," says Charlie Tabone, 57.

"I have no idea. And it's better if you don't think about it because it is bad luck," says Daniel.

Saviour Borg, 62, Lija
"I'd give the money to charity... and then do more charity at home... No, I won't keep any for myself. If my family is happy, then I am happy too."

Daniel Bonello, 21, Mqabba
"I'd buy a farmhouse and a car. That's enough for now, I suppose. Then we'll see. Oh yes, and I'd go on a good holiday! The farmhouse would have to be in the south, around Wied iż-Żurrieq and Filfla; the car would be the latest BMW X6 and the trip would be with my girlfriend to the Maldives."

Eman Falzon, 29, Pembroke
"First, I'd get rid of my debts. Then I'd go on holiday with my family and I'd also give money to charity. But I wouldn't stop working - I get fed up doing nothing!"

Lucia Vella, 58, Birkirkara
"Before I decide what to do with the money, I need to win it... But I would certainly help the poor and go on a special trip. I'd take my husband, my one daughter, her husband and her child to America - somewhere different as I've been to London before. It's all about luck, not about combinations and rubbish. I just choose numbers haphazardly."

Savic Svetozar, 52, Serbia
"If I won €1 million, I'd get a Porsche for myself and apartments in Malta for my three sons, plus one for me in Florence. I'm a resident here and I'm trying to find a job."
