In this football season I will be paying over €1,250 for the privilege of watching football on both Go and Melita sports channels.

But since I want to continue to enjoy watching the game, which I played or watched all my life, I really do not have muchchoice.

Since the start of the football season I have been reading a lot of letters on the subject.

Almost all have admired Nationalist MP David Agius for his efforts in order to try and make international football available to all fans at affordable rates. I wish him luck.

However, I am surprised that not one of the many contribu-tors has pointed out that Melita had enjoyed a monopoly in the case of English, Italian and European football for over 10 years.

And, again, no one during this period had appealed to Melita to share the rights of these same competitions with either TVM or Go. Apparently, these people want Melita to have the cake and eat it too!

And if Mr Agius did mention something years ago, I am sure that had he approached this subject with the same enthusiasm he is showing now, we would probably not have to pay so much to watch the same competitions today.
