The Grundtvig Sectoral Programme is divided into two types of activities that are supported by the European Commission. The first type of activity is the ‘Learning Partnerships’, while the second type of activity is ‘Individual Staff Mobility’. The latter includes in-service training courses, visits and exchanges, assistantships as well as workshops.

The programme can fund a range of activities related to basic skills, active citizenship, foreign languages, arts and culture, parental education, prison education and much more while assisting people from vulnerable social groups and in marginal social contexts.

Learning Partnerships:

Priority will be given to partnerships addressing the use of statistics in education, with particular relevance to the measurement of adult competencies;

Priority will be given to partnerships addressing the issue of recognition and validation of knowledge and skills obtained as a result of informal and non-formal learning;

Priority will be given to partnerships addressing literacy skills for adult learners.

In-Service Training:

Priority will be given to activities addressing e-learning programmes;

Priority will be given to applicants who have not received a Grundtvig In-Service Grant during the last 2 last two calls.

Visits & Exchanges:

Priority will be given to activities addressing e-learning programmes;

Priority will be given to applicants who have not received a Grundtvig ‘Visits and Exchanges’ grant during the last two calls.

Assistantships:

Provides participants the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the European dimension to adult learning;

Enhances participants’ knowledge of foreign languages, other European countries and their education systems;

Improves participants’ professional and intercultural competences.

Workshops:

Support to visual arts, music, creativity and other topics which are not too dependent on foreign language competence;

Support to intercultural dialogue and active citizenship;

Discussion groups on issues of common European interest.

Through the aforementioned activities, the Grundtvig Sectoral Programme seeks to promote European co-operation in lifelong learning. In addition, the programme aims to improve the training of adult educators while encouraging the development of innovative materials and resources. Finally, this programme seeks to stimulate the debate of lifelong learning and to encourage the sharing of good practice.

With regard to eligibility, the programme is open to every organisation, working in the field of adult learning and development, including providing learning opportunities in: formal; non-formal; and informal adult education.

Applicants interested in applying under the programme must be over the age of 25. Persons under the age of 25 that are eligible are those who are no longer undergoing initial education within the formal school or higher educational system.
