Greening up the home is the focus of tomorrow’s September issue of Places: Design & Living, which reacts to the deteriorating state of the environment by offering ideas on how to create indoor gardens, decorate with statement plants and integrate nature within the home.

Rapid urbanisation and a decrease in outdoor areas is countered by the integration of nature into indoor confines and everyday spaces, drawing inspiration from a more tranquil past.

The magazine also looks at plants chosen for their decorative beauty and sculptural good looks, turning them into the best accessories. It offers a modern spin on greening up interiors with the use of air plants, botanical must-haves and how to help them thrive.

On the subject of greenery, Places also zooms in on the widening of the Mrieħel-Rabat road and the removal of trees to achieve this, with heritage NGO Din L-Art Ħelwa making a case against managing traffic congestion through the addition of lanes and pointing out the major physical, cultural and social negative effects.

The interiors, design and architecture magazine also features the conversion of a house of character by its owners, two architects, into a contemporary and flexible living space, while protecting valuable heritage, which always finds space in its pages.

Conservation and restoration projects are outlined, while the countryside also takes centre stage with a charted walk along a heritage trail.

Cultural events that are strongly linked to the venues in which they are being held and the ‘architectural’ design in fashion, using recycled materials, all fuse in the bi-monthly magazine, published and produced by Allied Newspapers Ltd and out with The Sunday Times of Malta.
