For the past... well almost 40 years, Lino Farrugia has occupied a position at the apex of Maltese theatre and television. As a stage director of vision and innovation he ruled supreme for the best part of the 1970s and 1980s. His work with the Atturi Theatre Group was probably seen as some of his best, but since the Atturi's demise he has directed for a wide number of companies and TV channels.

Mr Farrugia is less well known as a writer, but he has been responsible for some of the better TV teleserials, stuff like the iconic Wirt, for example. This month he is directing his latest stage play in Maltese Mor, for Mario Micallef's Talenti company. Mor will be put on at the St James Centre for Creativity in their theatre-in-the-round.

Mr Farrugia outlined for Showtime the main thrust of his play: "The play is about three people. Morris (Mario Micallef) is a normal, seemingly, hard working man, married to Gloria (Monica Attard), a doctor and an astute businesswoman. Sina (Miriam Fiteni) turns up. She's an old friend. They seem like good wholesome people until, they discover some truths... or are they truths?."

He continued: "Mor is the embodiment of evil, but, he does it with a smile.

Mor is a 10-year-old. We had to be very careful during rehearsals how to deal with certain scenes as we have a real 10-year-old actor among us. We had to be more than careful in dealing with this, rather difficult situation. " Explained Lino Farrugia. "The 10-year-old Mor, the archetypal evil mind is being played by Conner Church, who is - in fact 10 years old." Mor will be staged at St James on April 11 to 13 and the following weekend from April 18 to 20.

Tickets from St James, on 2122 3216, or 9942 9282

Mor is being sponsored by the National Lotteries Good Causes Fund.
