Here is the resolution that I made for the new year.
Not to judge a thing by its jacket, and not to be ruled by deceit. To stand for what is right, and not just for what is popular or politically correct. To have but one face to present to the world, and to practise intellectual sobriety even through ruin and public ridicule. To show drive, discipline and direction, because a man who has a sense of purpose is a formidable thing.
Not to be blinded by bigoted devotion, and to pursue the truth even if it rubs people the wrong way and destroys their illusions. To nurture scepticism and self-examination, because a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. To comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, and not to fall prey to lazy domesticity and rationalisation.
To be sensitive to the logical use of words, and to avoid face-saving and legalistic ambiguity. To be more like those rare and heroic individuals who would rather stave off crises than milk them for political dividend and who constantly invite criticism by trying to improve the lot of the swinish and ungrateful multitude.
In short, to be more like Franco Debono. May Providence and prosperity be always by his side.
