Ever since Mgr Charles Scicluna was appointed archbishop of this diocese, he has attracted harsh criticism for the overt politically-biased comments he has made. The main accusations were that he had turned the Church’s Curia and its media into Nationalist-leaning organisations.

First, we had the appointment of Fr Joe Borg, renowned for his anti-Labour statements for decades, to head the Church’s radio station, RTK’s ‘editorial board’, where he is now also joined by Mary Ann Lauri, a well-known PN activist. Quite recently, Archbishop Scicluna was instrumental in the appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Mgr Joe Galea Curmi, the brother of the former personal assistant to ex-Nationaliust premier Lawrence Gonzi, Edgar Galea Curmi.

Not to leave even a shadow of doubt on whether both the Curia and RTK are now part and parcel of the anti-Labour government forces, Archbishop Scicluna appointed the son of former PN minister Austin Gatt, Gegè Gatt,  to lead the ‘Beacon Media Group’, which is responsible for the Church’s media.

It is often said that justice should not only be done but must also be seen to be done. In this case, it is not what we hear Archbishop Scicluna say during his Christmas speech but what he actually does throughout the year.

One can already easily foresee what these two ‘organisations’ will be doing during the election campaigns in 2019 and 2022.
