Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher is due to leave hospital today, more than two weeks after being admitted with a broken arm, her spokesman said.

The frail 83-year-old has been at the Chelsea and Westminster hospital in London since June 12 after breaking her arm during a fall at her nearby home. Dame Thatcher had surgery to insert a pin into her upper arm on June 19.

"Lady Thatcher will be returning home tomorrow (today). She is in good spirits and recovering well," the spokesman said yesterday.

Dame Thatcher, dubbed the Iron Lady for her uncompromising leadership style, is Britain's only female prime minister. She headed a Conservative government between 1979 and 1990 and overhauled the British economy during the 1980s.
