Ignorance is king. Many would not profit by his abdication. Maurice Mizzi (October 6) proves as much when he writes that: "While not every person of this religion (Islam) is a terrorist, every terrorist belongs to this religion and acts blindly."

This staggering statement is a textbook example of a Große Lüge, an expression coined by Hitler for a lie so outrageous no one should theoretically have the effrontery to proclaim it from a pulpit.

And yet, here it is in black type, sticking out of the pages of a national newspaper, so cocksure of the ignorance of its audience that it dares flaunt itself without fear of exposure.

The claim that Arabs have cornered the market on terrorism is one such fabrication, and anyone with the least knowledge of history cannot but receive it with a sneer.

Terrorism by any other name smells just as foul, and Mr Mizzi would do well to remember the unprovoked American attack on Grenada; American-backed terrorism in Chile; American subversion attempts and tyranny in the Dominican Republic; American genocide of the Vietnamese, Guatemalan, East-Timorese, Laotian, Indonesian and Cambodian people; American terror campaigns on the people of Thailand, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Brazil; the British overthrow of the democratically elected President of Guyana; American/Israeli state terrorism of the Palestinians; Israeli terror campaigns in Lebanon; American support for state terrorism of the people of Haiti, Colombia, Zaire and the Congo; American subversion and state terrorism of the Cuban people; American slaughter of people in Somalia; American invasion of Panama; American nuclear poisoning of the homeland of the Marshall Islands' people; and the British/American expropriation of the island of Diego Garcia for use as a military base.

Of course, this sort of state-sponsored terrorism generally has the backing of the media and the press, which is why you only ever hear of "peacekeeping activity", "police action", "graduated escalation", "preemptive strike", "measured response", "active defence", "preventive action", and a host of other weasel words that help preserve the aggressor's deniability.

Let us not forget that nearly all the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi Arabian, and that the Bush Administration's retaliation was in the manner of an invasion of two unrelated and now politically-expendable allies, Iraq and Afghanistan.

It however maintained strong business ties with the real culprit, the Al-Saud royal family, which continues to manipulate oil prices and inflict Sharia law on its people to this day.

Prussian military theorist Carl von Clausewitz was right after all: War is indeed the continuation of diplomacy by other means.

Mr Mizzi mocks I.M. Beck for not offering a solution to the immigration problem. He is a stern believer in immediate action, and demands solutions from isolated individuals that can only truly be arrived at after a concerted and sustained covenant of nations.

I may not have an answer for the immigration issue, but I do have some advice for Mr Mizzi: go read a book.
