Ten Somalis - three families who were granted protection, left Malta to embark on a new life in Ireland this morning.

This brings the total of beneficiaries of international protection who were relocated to Ireland from Malta since 2007 to 40.

This is the third time since 2011 that the Irish government received protected refugees from Malta.

Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia thanked Irish Ambassador Jim Hennessy as he emphasised the need for more European Countries to show solidarity not just in financial terms but also with relocation of migrants.
