Mark Miller's last match as Malta U-21 coach finished on a sour note yesterday. His team was beaten 5-0 by France who stayed in contention for a place in the European Championship finals with a clear victory despite having Yoan Gouffran sent off in the first half.

Gouffran was dismissed on the half hour with French already 2-0 up at the Stade de la Liberation in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The hosts took a fifth-minute lead through Loic Remy before Gouffran made it 2-0 on 29 minutes.

Yohan Cabaye made it 3-0 on 38 minutes and Frederic Nimani added two more goals on 70 and 86 minutes to wrap up a comfortable win for France.

Miller will leave the national team set-up this month after eight years to take over the reins of Premier League club Hibernians.

France are now sharing second place in the standings with Romania on 14 points, one behind leaders Wales. Romania are away to Bosnia today.
