Floriana made another significant step towards their goal of finishing second in the Premier League standings when they saw off Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 at the Hibs Stadium this afternoon.

The Greens held control of the match for much of the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 32 minutes. Floriana were awarded a free-kick on the left channel and Cassar's swerving cross was not held by Tarxien keeper David Cassar and in came Dragomir Draganov who poked the ball home.

Floriana's cause was hampered on 44 minutes when Doffo fouled the goalbound Daniel Mariano Bueno and the Argentine defender was shown a straight red card.

Despite this setback Floriana still managed to double their lead in their first raid of the second half. The goal came from another set-piece situation and Cassar's delivery was headed past Cassar by Daniel Nwoke.

Tarxien managed to pull a goal back two minutes from time when Bueno headed the ball home from a Gianluca Calabretta cross.
