Since Fr George Dalli, in my opinion, questioned the Catholic Church's teaching on the Holy Eucharist, much has been said and written in our media, which shows the confusion that exists in the minds of many Catholics today.

This issue revolves around whether cohabiting couples may receive Holy Communion. Some insist that such couples cannot received the Eucharist while they were living in sin.

However, Fr Dalli said he would administer the Eucharist to a woman in such a situation and said we were no longer living in the time of Moses.

God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses, but these were for all time. How can one argue that they are not still binding today, or that they are no longer 10, but six or seven, or even that they are completely outdated?

Since then, all hell has broke nloose, and other priests joined in the controversy, though they did not express themselves as bluntly as Fr Dalli. However, they came up with justification for his statement, thus creating more confusion.

None of them - at least not the ones I have heard - declared that anybody who is not in a state of grace cannot receive the Eucharist, and stopped there so as not to harm these people.

No Pope, no bishop, no theologian or priest can change God's Commandments, which are still 10 as they were in Moses' time. One who commits adultery is going against sixth Commandment, and one cannot separate the sixth from the rest to please somebody.

I do not want to judge anybody, because who am I to judge? I am a sinner too, but I know about the other sacrament of love, confession.

I agree with those priests who say that if a cohabitant goes up to receive the Eucharist in public, the priest should give it him or her to avoid a scandal, but priests should toe the line of Church doctrine, otherwise they will do much damage to the Church of Christ.

I wish to recall what Pope Benedict said recently, although in a different context, namely that the Church is being attacked not by her enemies but from within.
