Tents to serve as a temporary shelter for horses have been put up at Valletta Waterfront.

A spokesman for the Resources Ministry said that the tents should provide shelter from the sun to around 10 horses during the summer.

Last month, the ministry and Transport Malta promised a €300,000 investment in horse shelters in Valletta, Sliema and St Julian's. The shelters will vary in size according to location and will include cesspits for animal waste, water points, tins and tents.

Water points are also being set up at Mdina, Qawra and St Paul's Bay.

Mepa permits for the permanent shelters are currently being awaited.
