A magistrate yesterday ordered the compilation of a pre-sentencing report on two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, who were caught breaking into rooms of a Paceville hotel in the past days.

“You’re too young to be here admitting to theft, so this report will determine how best to help you,” Magistrate Aaron Bugeja told them.

A 15-year-old from Ħamrun, a 17-year-old Russian adopted by Maltese parents and a 23-year-old from Qormi, admitted to attempting to steal items from a room at the La Vallette Hotel in Dragonara Road, St Julian’s just after midnight on Friday.

The teenagers alone admitted to the theft of two mobile phones from another room in the same hotel at 3.30am on September 2.

Police inspector Elton Taliana told the court this was their first offence and they needed help to embark on a new route. Defence counsel Benjamin Valencia concurred, suggesting a pre-sentencing report to see what issues needed to be addressed.

Magistrate Bugeja refused bail for the 17-year-old following opposition by the prosecution. But the other two were released on bail.
