An 18-year-old man has been shot dead in north London, police said yesterday.

The man, described as of Algerian origin, was shot on Saturday night in the district of Tottenham. Emergency services found him with a gunshot wound to his neck and he later died of his injuries.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting follows the stabbing to death of another 18-year-old in northeast London on Friday night.

Police yesterday identified the victim as Wahab Zaaki and appealed for witnesses to help with their investigation.

A 17-year-old has already been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody, police said.

London has seen a wave of youth stabbings in recent years. Last year, at least 28 teenagers were violently killed in the capital, most of them in stabbing incidents. In 2006 the toll was 26.
