A 16-year-old in need of cash stole a bike and sold it to a friend, a court heard this morning.

The teenager, who cannot be named because he is a minor, admitted to stealing the Yamaha V80 on on July 21 and riding it without a licence and insurance.

The bike has now been returned to its owner and the young man was placed on probation for three years.

The teenager who bought the bike is to be charged with buying stolen property.
