An 18-year-old man was yesterday handed a two-year jail term suspended for four years after he admitted to nine thefts carried out when he was between 13 and 15 years old.

The man, who cannot be named because he was a minor when the crimes were committed, stole money and other items from Havana Café in St Julians, Vestis, Empire Pharmacy, O'Neill, Match Music Store, D'Amato record shop, Pearl's Grove, Jagger and Foto City in Valletta. The thefts happened between January 5, 2004 and February 26, 2006.

Three of the thefts had a value of over €2,239 (Lm1,000) and the rest were of under €2,239. He was also fined €582.

Police Inspector Carmel Magri prosecuted.

Lawyers Joseph Giglio and Stephen Tonna Lowell appeared for the man.
