An 18-year-old girl was yesterday charged with seriously injuring an elderly woman with a knife on Sunday evening.

Sabrina Camilleri, of Swieqi, pleaded not guilty to injuring 69-year-old Angiolina Grixti, the illegal possession of the knife and breaching the peace in Valletta at about 7 p.m. The teenager also pleaded not guilty to giving false information to the police later that evening at the St Julians police station. Magistrate Giovanni Grixti, who presided over the arraignment, granted the young lady bail against a €1,500 deposit and a personal guarantee to the same amount.

Police Inspectors Martin Sammut and Alfred Mallia prosecuted. Lawyer Joseph Brincat appeared for Ms Camilleri.
