A 16-year-old boy was remanded in custody yesterday after pleading guilty to a string of thefts from hotel rooms.

The boy appeared before Magistrate Antonio Vella charged with15 thefts in all, mostly targeting tourists, the police said.

The youth was arraigned after weeks of investigations by the Criminal Investigations Department.

The police said they had intensified investigations into thefts from tourists, including from hotel rooms.

The boy stole various items including cash, mobile phones and other items from hotel rooms and other tourism venues. The total value of the stolen items exceeded €8,000, the court was told.

He admitted to the charges brought against him and was remanded in custody pending a decision on his punishment.
