The last round of the Carlsberg Captains' League was played recently at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa.

Played once a month, over seven months, this competition is based on a team score, the best aggregate going towards determining the winning team. Each side is led by the current club captain together with the previous six club captains. The teams were chosen at the beginning of the season in September.

Mannie Agius' team, which had been leading the competition for the last two months, maintained a good score on the final day and ensured first place by 940 points - a comfortable 23 points ahead of the second-placed team, captained by Kim Borg.

An individual scoring competition is part of the Carlsberg Captains' League. Nicholas Borg, who was leading the event prior to the last round, returned a low score of 27 to drop him to an overall second place.

Alex Mangion, who scored 40 points, gained first place with an overall score of 193 just a single point ahead of Borg.

Per Bergedahl placed third overall with 186 points.

The best individual score for the seventh round was that of young Nicholas Beck (42 points), one ahead of Keith Woodward. The best team of the day was that captained by Paul Stoner (191 points).

At the end of the competition, David Micallef St John, Carlsberg Brand Executive in Malta, presented the prizes to the winners. Much to the delight of the golfers present, he confirmed the renewal of the sponsorship for the next golf season.
