The teachers' union has called for tough action against those who make "reckless allegations" against their tutors.
"Only in this way one can ensure that frivolous allegations are not repeated," the MUT said in a statement.
The union was reacting after Anthony Callus, 46, of Siggiewi, was cleared of sexually abusing a boy after the court on Thursday ruled that the minor's testimony could not be believed.
The MUT said it hoped that the person involved is now not dragged into further turmoil and appealed for similar cases to be swiftly resolved.
The union referred in particular to a case in Gozo, which has been dragging on for more than four years.
