The Malta Union of Teachers this evening called for security guards to be posted in certain schools after a teacher was assaulted and injured at Tal-Handaq secondary school by a parent.

The incident happened in the afternoon when the mother of a student entered the school, sought out her son's teacher of English and assaulted her.

The police were called and the teacher was sent home.

The MUT called for court action by the police and zero tolerance by the Education Department, adding that security guards should be posted as schools which were seen to be at risk.
