Mexican bakers have gone the extra mile with a traditional holiday ring cake.

Instead of measuring the usual 2ft or so, the monster cake weighed in at 10 tons and made a nearly mile-long circle in Mexico City's main plaza.

National bakers association vice president Antonio Arias said the bready Rosca de Reyes would probably make 200,000 slices.

Bakers used more than five metric tonnes of flour, three tonnes of butter and 38,600 eggs to create the cake.

The sweet bread is traditionally eaten on January 6, Three Kings Day, marking the end of the holiday season in Mexico.

The 1.5km cake was decorated with dried fruits and hidden inside were non-edible plastic figures of the baby Jesus.
