After a drab first half, during which scoring chances were few and far between, the match came into life in the second half when Ayrton Azzopardi taking centre stage when netting a late penalty and then set up Hevia for the second goal.

Sliema increased their urgency on the restart and on 53 minutes Alex Muscat burst into the area but his low shot was blocked by goalkeeper Andrea Cassar.

Kyle Hendry missed a glorious opportunity on 61 minutes when he was picked at the far post by Muir’s inswinging cross but Scottish forward fired over in front of a gaping goal.

Eighteen minutes from time Tarxien were awarded a penalty when Hevia was brought down in the area by Zammit. Referee Philip Farrugia dismissed the Sliema goalkeeper.

Entojo Elezaj was brought on for Peter Xuereb and from the spot Ayrton Azzopardi drilled the ball into the top corner of the net.

Hevia was again the protagonist eight minutes later when he latched to Azzopardi’s cross to head past Elezaj.

Tarxien midfielder Carlos Hevia was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
