Tarxien Temples visitors can now download a free app to guide them around the site which has just been covered with a canopy to protect it from the elements.

The app, developed by four students who formed a start-up group called Otus, in collaboration with Mita and Heritage Malta, is available in six languages and includes an audio guide.

Once downloaded on a mobile phone, the app provides the visitor with supplementary information to that found on the physical placards on site. This includes photographs of Sir Temi Zammit's team which excavated the site, a 360-degrees projection of the temples and 3D visuals of artefacts and features that are no longer visible as they have been covered for their own protection.

Additional premium content can be accessed at a minimal fee and the app is also accessible off site.
