Tarxien 2 Melita 0

After a slow start to the campaign, Tarxien Rainbows are beginning to find their touch in the premier league as they upstaged Melita tostretch their unbeaten streak to three games.

This victory moves the Rainbows up to sixth in the standings while Melita remained rock-bottom. The game was 16 minutes old when the Rainbows threatened to forge ahead.

Roderick Bajada slipped an intelligent ball to Daniel Bueno who managed to evade the challenge of his marker but his drive sailed over.

The Rainbows kept pushing. On the half hour mark, Tanti exchanged quick passes with David Fenech before his insidious cross-cum-shot was cleared in time by Matthew Borg.

From the ensuing corner, Evaldo broke the deadlock. The goal was straightforward; Fenech's corner was headed in by the Brazilian as Gribbon and Ivan Tufegdizic stood by and Matthew Sapiano came out but missed the ball.

Vukanic may just have made the difference in the particular occasion. The goal was Melita from their slumber. In fact, they generated some momentum just before half-time when Josè Louis Armaro Negrin took flight on a solo run on the left flank only for his shot to fly high and wide.

Gregory's thoughts on Melita's first-half performance was reflected in his bold decision to make a double substitution at half-time when he replaced Alhinho and Andrew Caruana Scicluna with Maxime Batel andKarl Vella Petroni.

But despite the changes, things did get better for the boys in red as they retreated deeper and deeper and were happy to strike fromdistance. In fact, after 51 minutes, Manuel Sierra Camacho received a short free-kick from Kane Micallef but blasted the ball over the bar.

More opportunities followed for Melita followed when Vella Petroni met Luke Sammut's cross with a looping header that the Tarxien goalkeeperpushing the ball onto thepost. But that was as good as it got for the Amateurs, who gave the ball away soon after to gift their opponents their second goal.

On the hour mark, Melita were punished when a misplaced pass allowed the Rainbowsto break as Danilo picked up the ball from Orosco Anonam and fed Andrè Reinaldo who strode forward in the inside-left channel to shoot low behind Sapiano.

Melita's misery compounded when Sierra Camacho was incurred a second booking for simulation with nearly half an hour still to play.
