Michael Galea struck a last-gasp equaliser to earn Birkirkara a priceless 3-3 draw that left them one point clear at the top of the Premier League standings.
It was a thrilling outcome to a match that saw the Rainbows fully exploiting the Stripes poor defending with the speed and excellent finishing of their striking trio of Gianluca Calabretta, Anderson Ribeiro and Denni.
It was the Rainbows who forged ahead after 17 minutes when Denni moved past two defenders before serving Ribeiro who quickly turned the ball towards Calabretta who fired the ball past Jorge Mora.
Birkirkara took just two minutes to draw level when Shaun Bajada headed the ball home from a Carlo Mamo cross.
However, the Rainbows regained their lead on 27 minutes when in another swift break Denni released Calabretta who planted the ball beyond Mora’s reach.
The Rainbows extended their lead eight minutes into the second half when from a Denni free-kick, Ribeiro anticipated his marker to fire the ball home.
Birkirkara reduced the deficit on 59 minutes when Bajada curled the ball home from a free-kick.
The Stripes kept pushing forward and managed to draw level five minutes from time when Michael Galea latched to Alan Tabone’s flick to head past Anthony Curmi.
