The revamp of Ta' Qali Crafts Village - discussed for over 10 years - is being re-evaluated after a request for EU financing from structural funds was turned down, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech has disclosed in Parliament.

The minister said the new evaluation is needed to ensure that the project really supports Maltese crafts.

The rebuilding of the crafts village was meant to start early this year and would have taken four years to complete - in view of the temporary transfer of the businesses.

The project was expected to cost €28 million, including the development of the complex itself, roads and the services infrastructure.

There are some 40 shops in the village. The number is projected to rise to 85.
