Tancred Tabone resigned as president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry for "personal reasons".

Mr Tabone has been named, along with other officials, in a police investigation probing an oil procurement scandal at Enemalta.

In a letter dated last Wednesday, Mr Tabone thanked the council and the employees at the Chamber for all the work carried out over the past two years.

During a meeting today, the council expressed gratitude for the "dedication and tireless work" carried out by the outgoing president.

The post of president will now be taken over by deputy president Stefano Mallia while the posts of deputy president and vice president will be occupied by William Wait and Andrew Mamo, respectively.

The two-year term of the current council will come to an end on March 25.
