The Tallinja bus card was becoming increasingly popular, being used on more than 60,000 bus trips daily, Malta Public Transport said.

More than 90,000 passengers have used the card since its launch. To date, almost 180,000 registrations were received and more than 170,000 cards delivered.

“The key to introducing complex technologies such as the Tallinja card is to make it as simple as possible for the customer”, Daniel Grech, commercial director of Malta Public Transport, said. “It is, therefore, very important to listen to our customers and immediately put into effect any feedback they pass on.”

Mr Grech noted that more than 7,000 passengers reached their monthly cap and would be travelling for free for the rest of the month.

The company said the ticket refund process for those who could not use their card or did not receive it on time would be open until Friday.

Customers who applied for a card by July 2 and bought tickets from the bus are eligible for a refund of the difference in price.

They are being asked to write their ID card number, Tallinja card customer number and telephone number on the back of every receipt and mail them to PO Box 10, Marsa.

The refunds would be processed by the end of August and credited directly to the Tallinja card, the operator said.
