The Malta Information Technology Agency (Mita) is spearheading 'Second Step' - a training programme leading to a Btec National Diploma in ICT, recognised by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) and internationally.

Second Step is co-financed by the EU through the European Social Fund and national funds. Applicants can choose one of three diplomas: Btec National Diploma in Computing and Information Systems; Btec National Diploma in IT; or a Btec National Diploma in Information Systems.

The diplomas are hands-on courses whereby students will study real-life, work-based case studies and complete tangible projects. Furthermore, these diplomas offer simple and consistent nesting of qualifications to allow students to choose specialist pathways in their programmes of study.

Second Step is targeted at individuals who are currently unemployed, at risk of long-term unemployment and/or would like to make career advancement. The programme will span two scholastic years and is offered either on a full or part-time basis. Students will also have the possibility to cover 40 per cent of the course online.

Applicants should be in possession of a Level 3 EQF/MQF qualification equivalent to an 'O' level standard of education or should have a minimum of three years' work experience in the ICT sector. They will be subject to an aptitude test that will assure their ability to take the training programme.

Priority will be given to applicants who intend utilising this ICT diploma for immediate employment prospects.

Availability is limited and subject to eligibility criteria.

Applications are open exclusively via an online registration form that can be accessed at www.mita.gov.mt.

More information related to entry requirements and course details is available on the Mita website.

Applications close next Sunday.
