The Malta Medical Students Association marked World Diabetes Day at the Bay Street complex in St Julian’s yesterday by offering the public the opportunity to have a check up for diabetes and take a risk assessment.

The same service is being offered by health centres and clinics between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.

According to the European Health Interview Survey, over nine per cent of the Maltese population know they have diabetes and six per cent are being treated for it. The number may, however, be far higher in reality, said Health Minister Joe Cassar, who visited Bay Street yesterday.
