World Taiji Day will be marked tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Independence Gardens in Sliema.

World Taiji Day was first organised in 1999. Tomorrow, Taiji lovers from each time zone start practising Taiji at the same time.

Originally developed in China several hundred years ago, Taiji, also known as Tai Chi, is a type of martial art known for its health benefits, such as dealing with tension and stress. It is often practised as a martial arts therapy for longevity.

This year, the China Cultural Centre, Malta Judo Federation and Malta Wushu Association will mark the day together. Besides various fascinating performances such as Taiji Quan and Taiji Sword, a special Taiji Fan will be performed by the female members of the Chinese Embassy.

The photo shows a performance from last year's celebration.
