The only public toilets in the Ta' Xbiex area are near the Manoel Island fare-stage kiosk in Gżira and at Msida playing field (facing the parish church). There are no public toilets along Ta' Xbiex front, which is a popular promenade especially in summer.

Walking along the newly made-up pavement of Ix-Xatt Ta' Xbiex, one has to put up with the unbearable stench from the bottom steps leading down from the upper road of Ta' Xbiex Terrace) that takes you towards Ix-Xatt Ta' Xbiex, because these are used by men as latrines.

A similar stench comes from the steps leading towards the rocky beach between Ta' Xbiex Aquatic Sports Club up to the Black Pearl area. The stench from urine and rubbish one finds in these places is also a health hazard for those who frequent this area.

So I call on the Health Department to ensure that these steps are regularly cleaned up. There should be notices warning against using the area as a latrine, and if necessary CCTV should be installed.

The area should also be patrolled by wardens, because dog owners do not bother to clean up after their animals.

It is about time that a public toilet be built in this particular area (preferable below Ta' Xbiex Terrace) which at present is surrounded with police barriers indicating a dangerous stone structure inside the unused wall, situated opposite the former MPFA playing-field platform (now a restaurant). This area is in the middle of lx-Xatt Ta' Xbiex and the toilets can be either free or coin-operated 24 hours a day.
