The painting of Our Lady Ta' Pinu, Gozo's most precious religious icon, is being carried processionally to the papal altar on the Granaries in Floriana.

Pope Benedict, who was unable to visit Gozo, will be presenting a gilt silver rose to be displayed on the painting.

Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass outside Ta' Pinu on May 26, 1990.
