The titular painting of Our Lady of Ta' Pinu will today be at the Granaries in Floriana where Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate Mass at 10 a.m. After Mass the Pope will offer a gold rose to Our Lady during a short Marian celebration.

Pope John Paul II had placed five gold and diamond stars around the head of Our Lady during his visit to Gozo on May 26, 1990.

After the ceremony, the painting will be taken to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Valletta, where it will exposed for the veneration of the faithful until Thursday.

The painting will be taken back to Gozo on a national pilgrimage on Friday. Accompanying the painting will be Archbishop Paul Cremona and the Apostolic Nuncio Tommaso Caputo.

On arrival in Gozo, the painting will be taken to its sanctuary on a pilgrimage led by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech. The pilgrimage will pass from Għajnsielem, Xewkija, Victoria and Għasri.

When the pilgrimage arrives near St Publius chapel near Ta' Pinu, the painting will be taken to its sanctuary in procession with the participation of priests and Marian confraternities, followed by Mass led by Mgr Cremona on the church parvis.
