Two Syrian men this morning admitted in court to failing to declare cash which they were carrying at the airport on their way back home to Syria.

Hamza Abdul Ghani, 33 of Sta Venera admitted that he was carrying €15,800 when, according to law, any cash over €10,000 should be declared by passengers before departure at the airport.

Telas Mohammed, 40 of Paola, admitted to carrying €13,550.

The balance over €10,000 was confiscated by the court and they were each fined €25% of the total amounts. Mr Ghani lost a total of €9,700 of which €3,950 was the fine and €5,500 was the confiscated excess.

Mr Mohammed lost €6,937 of which €3,550 was the excess amount he was carrying and €3,387 was the fine.
