A crowd of around 50 Syrians who live in Malta marched up and down Republic Street in Valletta this afternoon, in a noisy but peaceful protest against the atrocities taking place in their country.

The Syrians called on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down.

They carried placards and posters and shouted that their elders and their children are calling for freedom.

They called on Europe and Mlata to give more support for their cause and said that a no fly zone would put a stop to the use of aircraft against the people.

One of the posters showed President Bashar hugging former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddaffi.

Another wasof Mr Bashar's family – "the family that destroyed Syria". Another poster shows a crossed out President Bashar.
