The Syrian community in Malta protested in Republic Street, Valletta, this afternoon calling for international help for their country.

More than 4,000 people have been killed in Syria since March, according to the United Nations.

Clashes between troops and army defectors continue regularly as the nine-month-old uprising against Syria's authoritarian President Bashar Assad has grown increasingly violent in recent months as once-peaceful protesters take up arms and rebel soldiers fight back against the army.
