The Swiss Football Association has prepared a plan in the event head coach Koebi Kuhn is forced to quit the team.
The coach, whose side face Czech Republic in the tournament opener tomorrow, has been visiting his wife in hospital since she suffered a serious epileptic fit at the beginning of the week.
"We are assuming that the coach will be able to continue his duties," team manager Ernst Laemmli told reporters at Switzerland's training camp.
"We have made sure, however, that we know how things would continue should something unexpected happen to change that."
Kuhn is due to step down at the end of the European Championship. Former Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld should be replacing him.
But Mr Laemmli said the plan did not involve asking Mr Hitzfeld to start the job earlier.
"I have been asked that a lot and can guarantee that it is not an option," the team manager said.
"We have a coaching team that is not just Koebi Kuhn. We have his assistant Michel Pont, who can take on some of the coach's responsibilities, along with the rest of the coaching staff."
The Swiss FA said in a statement on that Mr Kuhn's wife remained in intensive care but her condition had stabilised.
An FA spokesman added that she had been kept in an artificial coma since being found unconscious at the couple's home.
