Infrastructure Malta is wrapping up the €450,000 rebuilding of Triq il-Keffa, a Swieqi residential road extending almost half a kilometre which had been left in a state of disrepair for many years.
The agency’s contractors started laying the topmost layer of asphalt to the road’s surface early on Thursday morning, after completing several other works, including new underground utility services, storm water systems and the rebuilding of its foundations and pavements.
The works were carried out at the request of Swieqi Local Council, which could not afford to handle the works itself.
Infrastructure Malta was established earlier this summer to plan and implement the government’s commitment to upgrade the roads.
It said it is currently prioritising the construction of 170 residential roads which have never been built before, even if residents have been living in them for years.
